August 31, 2000 =Came Up To Tokyo! |
I am not quite certain when I can update this web page as the next time... There is NO telephone in the room I am currently staying. I guess, this is another reality that I face in Japan...You know what? I am staying in Red Cross Japan Headquarters... where accommodation facility is in the building which is open to public. Red Cross... isn't that international organization? I thought so. Though, the phone in the room is extensions only and cannot make any calls to outside.
That's why I am saying that I am not sure when I can post this update.
Will stay in this darn facility until Monday. Then, I move to another hotel then... I believe that I should get better communication environment.
Here's the room look like:
![]()
This room is for 6 people... too big for only myself. Need a company!
I should get a private room for tomorrow and later... just for tonight like the above.
You know what? My plan is blasted when coming in town of Tokyo this afternoon. This is because the company informed me that it decided to cut my training session by a half... ending around 13th when hitting back to US for my sister's wedding.
What this means is... I have to find and move to own my place to live then rather than the end of month... Cannot find apartment that quick, especially I will be out of country for a week or so then. This is nothing but darn crazy! What do they want me to do! (damn it)
Renting apartment is much more complicated in Japan than in US. It was beyond my imagination... I am looking for a small room with $600 per month. In Japanese customs, you have to pay deposit as of two months of rent, gratitude fee of a month (won't be returned), and agent commission of a month rent... In other words, you have to pay 4-5 times as much as paying rent, as initial cost!!! In my case, assume renting a room for $600 per month... have to pay $2400 in total!!! How can people survive living in this country? Don't know, truly.
Good thing... called up my brother, asking him for a help. He agreed to accommodate me in his condo for 10 days or so... after the trip to Robyn's wedding 'til the end of month. Thanks, bro! This means I am saving around $400 or so.
Oh, saw a TV show... isn't that familiar?
![]()
"Quiz Millionaire"
Logo used in this quiz show is exactly same as in "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire!"
All right, tomorrow is the first day in new position. Shouldn't be too complicated... since I will be given orientation.
Let me hit the sack... very sleepy already.

August 30, 2000 =More Friends ... More Drinks! |
Still darn hot in Ogaki... lots of sweat... requiring thirst-quenching drinks... BEER.Yes, another night, still same agenda. I have a chance to see some more friends. They are from high school. I had a nice reunion with Yasunori, Katsuhide, and Hosei... all from the same class in high school.
Place (today I remember well compared to last night) - "Yatai-ya" direct translated as "Tavern Shop" near Ogaki Station.
![]()
from left to right> Katsuhide, Yasunori, Itsuka (Yasunori's GF), and Hosei
![]()
Japan's current trend... everyone attaches a strap (with some character goods) to his cellular phone.
Yasunori's Goods... Nokia cell phone with Palm V (Louis Vuitton's cover)
Calling more friends? Maybe new girlfriend?
Thanks to those mates, I've got more info about other friends from high school. Had some phone calls like above pictures and found some friends were still in Tokyo area so that I can make a contact! (cool)
Man, another party... still same kind of fun time! Cannot resist... I had a quite few drinks, actually more than the previous night. Beer and some mixed drinks.
Too bad that this fanfare is the last one before hitting back to reality... am going to Tokyo tomorrow. Fun is over for a while, I think. I have to hunt an apartment and all other miscellaneous stuff like opening a bank account, buying new cellular phone (so you can call from US!), etc.
Have I packed? Gotta be kidding! Haven't done anything at all... as always. Will pack minimum for a few day and hit to Tokyo tomorrow. Remaining items will be packed and send to the hotel where I am going to spend next entire month from tomorrow on.
Have to inform you a bad news... a friend from middle school, Ariyuki Toki, was killed in traffic accident at the end of last month. Am extremely sorry for the loss of a friend. - We should be careful when driving out there...
Will see you here from Tokyo... with more trend information from the most exciting place in Japan. Adios!

August 29, 2000 =Scary Ladies... My Friends? |
Man... Japanese women... I lost the hope... I tonight went out with 3 ladies. I know, sounds great, huh! Not really... (just kidding) they were tough on me. Kept picking on me. All the times!!!![]()
Satomi, Rumi, and Miwa
They are friends of mine. They are same age as mine (27 years old = ooops, shouldn't mention it here?). Rumi and Miwa went to school together with me thru middle school. Miwa, in fact, went to same high school with me too. Satomi, Rumi's friend from high school, came along with her tonight to have drinks with me.
Rumi told me that I had met Satomi before (even only once)... Did I remember? Of course not.
Those ladies... laughed at me with how fat I was... They told me it was not healthy. I know. They kept reminding me of that all night too. What friends! (haha)
Satomi just had a birthday today (as far as told me so) ... Happy Birthday!
We then went to a local tavern for drinks. Beer and some mix drinks. I discovered lots of things about my friends from that old days. Who married and who's already got kids, etc. Man! Lots of friends were already settled for their futures (Am I that unfortunate?).
Anyway, the party was fun and it was nice to see my friends like this (even though they NEVER stopped picking on me!).
You know what? When I mention taking pictures... Rumi reacted like "Go right ahead... make sure you take pictures make us look beautiful" --- what a request, I've got. I haven't encountered anyone like that about taking pictures before... Rumi wasn't that kind of open person before... changed a bit.
I hadn't seen those friends for... at least 5 years. It was certainly great reunion. And needless to say, good drinks.
Who took care of check?! You know, I had to. They forced me to. Didn't have a choice then. Though, I WILL collect money from those laies later on for sure! (was about $110!)

August 28, 2000 =Terry and Robin Quit? |
Shocking news confirmed --- Terry and Robin were about to leave Fritz. Wow, that's a big news, which I didn't quite imagine. So what's going to happen to Imports Dept. then? Terry and Robin... they were the core of the operation, I thought --- how can rest of the people can handle?
It was another hot day in Ogaki. Nearly 100 degree! Didn't do much all day long (again).
Oh, went to pick up my a pair of suits... and sales clerk took a while to locate mine from the back side. It was for 15 minutes or even longer. Then, he came out pale. He said, "Apologize, the pants are not quite complete yet." He looked really pale. What happened was that alteration wasn't done as requested. I wanted to have doubled-bottom and they fixed them as single (straight) bottom.
He admitted a fault made for this right away and he said he would deliver the pair of suits to my house upon completion in the same afternoon.
Wow! Free delivery? I got surprised because I really did expect to come back to this place to attempt another pickup.
I guess, Japanese customer services are beyond my imagination? Mmmmm.
Delivery was finally made at 5:30pm as specifically request. Very precise... impressed.
I was watching a movie from the cable... "Devil's Advocate." I saw the subtitle at the bottom of the TV screen and found lots of easy translations. I would say, I could do better job that that! Sometimes, it was awful translation. At the same time, Mom was watching the same movie with me... though, she couldn't keep up with the story because she was busy catching up with words in subtitle. Then, had to explain what's going on in the movie to her... She seemed haven't seen any movies for years (typical Japanese housewife?).
Oh also, went to an outlet shopping complex called "Riverside Mall" located in suburbs of Ogaki. Heard it was quite popular and I expected it as a good mall. I was wrong. It was okay --- didn't buy anything. Just walked through.
Hot --- this kind of weather didn't motivate me to do anything. Truly. Better start packing for Tokyo... Need to clean up my room too.

August 27, 2000 =Return to Home --- Ogaki |
Å@Party is over --- took a bullet train back to home in the morning and was home around 2pm. You know what?NO HANG OVER.I've got 22 email messages just for a day. Check my email box in the morning yesterday around 7am... then, came home today and opened the box around 3pm... and there were 20-some messages. Wow! How do I feel? "POPULAR." - "THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR"
Contacted a several female friends (I can call them as my friends, right?). Since my time in being home is limited as up to this Wednesday.
Will see old-time friends, Rumi and Miwa on Tuesday for dinner. Funny thing... Miwa didn't have driver's license and Rumi didn't like driving at all. While I was talking with Miwa over the phone, I asked her to tell Rumi to pick me up when she came up. I do have international driver's license... though, I kind chose not to drive much since it's different in rules and customs of driving. NOT because I was lazy.
You know what? Rumi called me afterwards and said:
"Can't believe that you asked me to pick you up! What authority was that?"
Of course, she wasn't that serious that much... though, I told her, "Well, you car has 4 doors and 4 seats, right?" I guess, I still don't know how to treat women...
Most importantly, I was such hateful guy in schools when I was student here in Ogaki. Forgot that all friends were mean to me all the times! Reality hit me hard.
Well, somehow I was extremely tired and need to go to bed... let me rest. Lots of unfamiliar people with different atmosphere made me feel this way for now, I guess.
Will talk to you tomorrow.

August 26, 2000 =Japanese Style Party --- Crazy!!! |
Sorry for late update... I am sure that you don't mind to excuse me this time because of interesting issue to post here today --- how crazy Japanese people are!As previously mentioned, I came up to Atami, Shizuoka (of course, in Japan) for the Kickoff Meeting of new company, which I am going to work for as of 9/1/00. Gathering was initiated around noon and there were 114 people (1 absent) at Hotel New Fujiya.
Atami, where I am for now, is a place famous for hot spring or "Onsen" and lots of visitors come to this place for vacation. In other words, this is an entertainment place.
Meeting too place first of all from 1pm 'til 5:30pm. It was pretty serious. Covered the current fiscal year and given the forecast and budget on fiscal year of 2001 starting from 9/1/00. This company is looking at 218 million dollars as Gross Sales next year... wow!
There was an introduction on new employees and I was one of them... given a few seconds to say something and I had a chance to speak to the public on the stage.
I said:
"My name is Tak. I failed to continue schooling here in Japan and went overseas to study thereafter. Hope I don't have to make same mistake in my career... this is my second chance in my life against Japanese society."
Hope people made a sense out of this. I sort joked about this; not so sure how much people would get this.
2nd half of gathering was from 7pm. Actually, this one is the main for everyone --- P A R T Y!!!
Eating, drinking, and playing games for entertainment to all. You can see how crazy the thing was like following. I don't have any needs to make any comment out of this since you call tell...
![]()
Which guy can eat quick to win? (eating noodle)
People making bet on which guy can win...
Wow! What costumes!
Sometimes, fitting perfectly...
Great time!
Of course, afterwards...
After all, I came back to room around 3am? Full of drinks. Couldn't take any more at that time, seriously. Man, I will have a hang over! (hehe)
Still didn't get a chance to go downstairs for public bath (i.e. Onsen) yet. I will do that at least once before leaving this place tomorrow.
I hope you have some fun with this page today. I am sure that I can tell more interesting stuff of Japanese culture, etc. later on. Stay tuned!
Man, am tired!

August 25, 2000 =Health Examination and Eye Exam? |
Didn't find any problem (except brain wave) on my physical examination took place in nearby clinic. Though, I found interesting thing on eye exam.My vision is now improving... 2 levels better on and 3 levels better for the other eye...
I was told because of age --- don't know that is true or not. Anyway, I therefore decide to fix all lenses on a couple pairs of glasses I have.
This kind surprised me because I was thinking that my vision got worse. I guess this was quite good surprise... (nearsighted).
Physical one... was told that I weighted 175lbs!!! NOOOOOOOOOO, I am only 170lbs! (damn serious!)
Afternoon... went out to shop some more. This time, bought a suits for new position (spent $400 for this). I of course brought back several pairs of suits from Atlanta, however I kind wanted to buy new pair and did so today. Pants will be ready by Monday and this must be the final shopping as part of my preparation for Tokyo.
What kind of suits? They are not PINK, okay! I did buy something very conservative for a business. It's actually black-ish. 3 buttons on jacket and they are actually 3 pieces (jacket, pants and vest).
You know what? I spent most of the time today with my Mom no matter where I went.
Tomorrow, I will hit to Atami, Shizuoka (about 2 hours away by train from here), one of places famous for HOT SPRING. What am I going to do? Well, everything is for Kick-Off Party. In other words, that's on job then. Gathering starts around noon tomorrow and SERIOUS meeting will take place all afternoon. Then, a big party kicks in over dinner and even later on.
Of course, will update you how the meeting and party go tomorrow. I don't know if I can secure the connection to Internet from there tomorrow night or not. Anyway, I at lest will get to know people with whom I am going to work... prior to my 1st day in Tokyo, 9/1.
Will take a bullet train around 9am... wow, early!
Hasta luego!

August 24, 2000 =Jet Lug for Tak? No Way! |
Hey, folks! Did I get a jet lug? --- I am not that old YET! Please note... I went bed like 1:30am last night and woke up around 6:30am this morning! I guess, I got up quite early compared to my normal life in US... though, still I am in good shape.Am so eager to use English language already. See CNN as well as movies I brought back from US such as "Crown Affairs," etc. Too many crazy stuff going on here and I just try to be simple with same language capability. So far, works out pretty good.
Today --- didn't do much. Stayed home in the morning and had several contacts with new company about the settlement. They said, I really had to pass the physical examination... Asked them if I am HIV positive... haha, they said, the exam didn't include that. Exam is very simple and I should be able to pass... only in the case of any serious disease found, I have to think about another path.
I was talking to a manager of the company for administrations. She said, "Wow, your Japanese sounds like English!" --- Don't know exactly what she meant for. Anyway so far, I am proving myself that I am no longer ordinary Japanese fellow.
Then afternoon, got a haircut. Cost me 4,000JPY... same for almost $40!!! Includes haircut, shaving, and facial treatment. Barber I went to is owned by friend's parents... Talked with them a lot.
Oh, picture of new hairstyle? No so fast!
Checking something out about driver license --- since I need one here for Japan. I brought an International License issued by AAA. Upon inquiring to Police Department of Ogaki City, the response was rather complicated than expected.
Usually, people must take classes before the national exam to obtain the license. I was told that I can be given waiver for that portion... but I must take the final exam both written and driving. In taking the exams, have to prepare: passport copy, photo, document the US license translated (which takes a week to get done by JAF like AAA in US) and International License.
And you know what? Taking that exams is currently for 2-month-waiting! Couldn't believe it. I gave up to get it done here in my hometown. I have to do so in Tokyo, instead. Man! I don't believe this.
Some pictures taken by Dad's Sony Mavica camera:

Tak's Japanese-size room (small, huh!)
Finally obtained Visor - Tak's newest gadget
Visor is pretty good. I recommended. Mine is yellow, looked like gold though. It's a bit thicker than ordinary Palm and thinner from the Palm. Anyway, cannot wait to buy more gadget adding to this wonderful toy of mine! My Dad was quite interested in this. Of course, I don't want to explain much about this stuff... too much technical terms on him and hectic to tell him everything in the first place.
Well, let me go for now. Tomorrow --- Geeee, health exams.

August 23, 2000 =Tak in Japan NOW! |
Finally... am in Japan, folks! I am sure that so many people would say by now "Thanks Goodness!," correct? Haha!Flight is no longer comfort to myself anymore. Because getting older and older, I lose the physical strength, I guess. I am now easy to get beat! Kinds were around in the aircraft... since the end of summer vacation. They were hurry to go home! Though, they were noisy and hell! (I almost lost my patience and would have screamed like "Shut up!" ---
My flight out of Portland, OR, arrived in Nagoya pretty much on time... was 3:23pm/23. No delay and... I thought that I would go through rest of the process upon my entry to Japan. I was wrong. Damn wrong!
I checked in 3 items, a large suitcase, 1 big box (mostly suits, jackets, and shoes), and golf bag (Of course, I need to play this little game in Japan too!). Golf bag came out quite fast... then, Nnnnnnnnnnnone. I couldn't find 2 more stuff from the baggage claim for a long time thereafter. It actually took me about 20 or even 30 minutes to get all back. I don't know what happened back there. Then, I went thru Customs. Yes, didn't have any problem. They didn't ask me for a visa (I am darn Japanese - no visa needed!).
Yah, I am now in Japan!
It was quite hot... and most importantly humid. 96 degree... made me feel like 110 degree or so. You know, Atlanta is humid... where I am is actually more than that! See, you don't want to visit me in Japan, right?
Oh, my Mom came to the airport to pick me up. She seemed quite happy to see BAD son of hers... Stopped by a cafe for a tea and then came home.
Japanese bath... always great. I weighted 170 lbs as of today. We'll see how this measurement would change. Maybe because of such delicious stuff to eat for myself to gain more? Or possibly lose some weight due to severe social life with crazy work??? What would you guess? I would probably deal with this information in a month or two cycle.
TV, newspaper, billboards... all in Japanese. Make me feel like a bit weird... I am so used to darn English stuff!
Oh, better mention --- tons of fancy buildings along with highway... many of them are, we call, "love hotels." Yes, as you can imagine... place accommodates you to have sex... (you have to bring your own partner, though). Japanese youngsters are always looking for a place to sleep with his/her lovers? Maybe so!
All right... I am still tired. Let me go for rest.
If you have sent emails to me yesterday or so and that email got back to you? Sorry for inconvenience! I fixed the problem; should be fine by now. Plus, I no longer have email address, "takyamada@mindspring.com"-
My email address is always: ogakijin@ogaki.netOne more thing to mention today. Yes, VISOR (Palm compatible) is now in my hand! Wow! It's cool. I've got a yellow one and very nice. Very. Will transfer most of data from blue Palm tonight so that I can start carrying around with me tomorrow.
See you tomorrow. What will I do tomorrow then? Don't know yet.

August 20, 2000 =Party --- Last Golf?!?! |
Last party last night and then for today??? --- Golf. No surprise, huh? Foyer, tkoich (from Big Apple) and Kirk invited me to play LAST golf with them at Heritage Golf Club.Heritage --- I've played once before. Hard course and expensive to play! ($100!!!)
We started at 8am since tkoich was leaving (flying back to NY) around 3pm on the same day. Man! I spent time with my folks up to 2am in the bar and came home and EVEN UPDATED my website thereafter... went bed like 3:30am, and I play golf like that in next early morning?! Yes. Everything is just for me and I do all I can do!
Remember, I've got a new set of clubs? Today is the first time to use... a bit concerned because I knew I had to get used to them. Though, the result was rather likely. I liked them and I could hit better shots out of them.
Since I messed with 10 shots on par-3 hole... the score wasn't nearly close to what I normally shoot, was 115. Though, I feel I did pretty good with new clubs on such a difficult course.
Of course, those friends beat me with better scores... regretfully.
Mmmm, Tiger (Woods) won another one?! Man, who can stop this guy? (at least not me)
After this golf event... I started SERIOUS packing... finally.
I've already packed up 3 boxes and I will run into Post Office first thing in tomorrow morning. Do I really POSSIBLY finish packing everything? May not so... in that case, I ask yk110 (roommate) to store some stuff here so that I can take care of it when coming back (when?).
Oh, almost forgot to mention. I saw another friend... old friend, actually. I saw Andrea (Robinson) --- haven't seen her for a long time. She was doing great! She's working in Kennesaw now.
Well, let me go back to work... so that I can leave as scheduled.

August 19, 2000 =Party --- Last One for Me! |
Another party... once again! Friends got together just for me once again... Today we started this stuff from Canton Cooks on Rosewell Road... then moved on to American Pie for additional drinks, then the last part of fiesta was ended at the bar nearby.Man, drinks and drinks... Good foods and most importantly GREAT conversation.
Here's some snap photos from the scene:
![]()
This is pretty good picture, don't you think?
Look! tkoich is now back in town for this party! (3rd from left)
Bamian, tkoich, and Kirk...
Yoshiko, Tom2bwu, and Tama
Mickey, MM, and yk110 (laughing?)
yk110 (here we go again), Tak, and Bamian
Tama, Hiro (Suzuyo guy!) and Yuki
Total... we've got 13 people showed up... Wonderful gathering. I am quite honored and grateful about this thoughtfulness...
By the way, look up the pictures showing myself wearing brown shirt... it was a gift from Kirk... he brought a similar shirt wearing today himself. Anyway, everyone said that it was fit on me in color... I usually don't wear any brown... I guess first time to put on something like that. I guess I like it.
Party was from 6pm thru 1am... man! I've got to play golf tomorrow... I have TOO MUCH fun with my sincere friends.
Ok... let me go for rest... I am quite tired and should get some sleep for tomorrow golf.

August 17, 2000 =Last Trip to N.C. |
Today's update is from Waynesville, NC - place of my heart... in US. This place is where Haynes Family resides, that's why.I have been with this family since the 1st year of my stay over US. Since then, things have been very close between the Family and myself. I have been grateful and it wouldn't be the same experience for me in the States if I wouldn't have met people here.
The house where I am writing this... is the origin of all for my life in US, I would say.
It's always being HOME just like a family member... and I am. This place makes me relaxed and I can talk for anything.
Now my job in this place is to tease with Robyn (my sister) about her getting married in a month (Man! It's less than a month now).
When I arrived here, around 3:30pm, Mom, Robyn and I went to Country Club for a meeting about the foods to be served in reception after the wedding ceremony. Last meeting for same subject, Robyn took Edgar (bloom) to the place and this time, she brought someone else (=me), so she had to tell like "I haven't changed the bloom." Hahaha, it was funny.
Man, I was so surprised that Robyn had to tell which dish for cold, hot meals, breads, etc. I really thought that it was a set dinning. That's cool, though.
No registry... for this wedding. Since Robyn is moving to Columbia (of course, country), she doesn't do so and she'll take anything like cash, US bonds, money order, etc.
Funny stuff to show you... today I have 2!
One is some nice joke-

Shop in Downtown Waynesville --- Do you need new BRIEF case?
Stacy - with proud of camouflage seat cover!
Stacy... I haven't seen him for a quite long time. He talked about the seat cover and got a several complements about it. What happens if he wears same type of clothing? No one can see who's driving! Hahaha. Any comments about Stacy's selection of seat cover, please email me.
Moving into final weekend... What about packing?
Oh, reason of this trip is not only to see my family, but also to bring some stuff for storage. Brought my desktop computer (PowerMac 8500/180, printer, many movie tapes, music CD's, some winter clothes, etc.)
Will leave early Friday morning and be back in town (=Atlanta) by mid-afternoon. See you later. I won't forget to pick up my NEW golf clubs (should be ready by 10am).

August 16, 2000 =New Golf Club Set and Last Braves Game! |
Counter is now rotating quite quick... at least in Japanese page since the counter is now showing of getting closer to 20k hit! Jonathan Forrester, don't even think about it! (hahaha) The current hit is around 19940... maybe tomorrow I can get someone to prove me of 20k hit! After last day in office, I was SUPPOSEDLY packing (you know why I am capitalizing that word...). Though, a friend - Foyer called me up this morning and told me that he would be in Norcross area from Fayetteville. Since we'd talked about buying new clubs for myself, I really thought that this would be it!
Certainly holding my check book because I don't want to leave any debt in my American Express... we met each other at Golf Warehouse on Buford Hwy. As soon as I saw him, told -
"Look! Because of you, I am holding this darn check book! This must be the day because I know you won't let me back out from the deal."You know of Japanese culture... must pay respect to elders. Foyer is the one for me. I cannot get rid of that and had to risk with my money for it (yah right! I just needed some OFFICIAL excuse to buy something big!).
Before getting inside the shop, I already knew what brand I wanted - PING for iron set. I sort wanted to buy brand new... they are just too expensive and couldn't afford. Then, found PING i-2... used. $325, I thought.
Then, I had to buy a carry bag - new. It was about $180. Wow, I spent more than $500 that instantly?! I did. I was moron! (hehe)
Though, I was happy! <- most important in human life as per Bible
You know a surprise I got from that scene? Foyer bought me a drive (1W) by Taylor Made. Cost more than $200! He bought it in front of myself and gave it to me. What a great great great surprise! I just told him that I was dreaming of having Taylor Made driver because of its shape. Of course, I test hit balls with it and went so smooth! Couldn't resist something awesome, right?
Where is pictures of new set? Will show to you like Friday...
Anyway... thank you, my friend! Won't forget about this.
Then in the afternoon: Last Braves' Game in Turner Field. With THREE (3) female companions! This is another great deal I accomplished before going home!
![]()
left to right> Hidemi, yk110, and Juri
Everyone knows of yk110 - my "scary" roommate. Juri is now another roommate to live with me. Hidemi is our common friend and thanks to those ladies, I had a great time.
By the way, all 4 tickets were supplied by Fritz Companies in Atlanta. I hereby thank you for your sponsorship! (I am talking to you, John Alford!)
We even went up to 755 Clubs since any of those ladies had experienced to be in there. They were so excited! Crowded, though.
Game --- was pretty good. Had to leave before the end of game since Juri had a part-time job to catch up with. Anyway, it was DEFINITELY hot, damn hot. Though, I really enjoyed the moment being in there.
Lastly...

August 15, 2000 =Tak Went to Office for the Last Time! |
Another drinks... after work. It was my LAST LAST LAST appearance in the office! I of course brought my digital camera to take everyone's picture! (except those who refused me to take pictures...)![]()
I took plenty of pictures like you see... too bad that there are too many to put up all here... Anyway, thanks!
Around 3:45pm... was a small gathering for me to say good-bye and I've got some gifts and a large cookie.
![]()
"Good Luck Tak We'll Miss You!"
Wow, that piece of cookie is huge... too big to eat up all! Plus, I've got many stuff with Fritz logo on them... mug, coaster, key holder, etc. Most memorable one? That is... the softball on which all those who played with me signed. This is really great stuff and will remind me of Atlanta well.
Oh for lunch, Kack took me out... First time and last time in my life time when she became so sweet and nice to me. Usually, she's got a big mouth against me and kept picking on me! Though, because of last time to see me for her, she's quite nice... unbelievably (haha).
Hope she won't see this and sends me ugly message... Shhhhh, don't tell her about this, please!
Anyway, I am deeply moved by people today... really emotional. I have been quite happy with people I worked with. Certainly, the place in that office was significant to my life and to value of my life. I promise that I won't forget about the time I spent in that place and about the people who kept picking on me!Thank you! I always love ya'll! Will keep in touch from this website.

August 14, 2000 =Tak's Car Now SOLD! |
Drunk... too much drink when I don't work... right? Tonight, I had 3 or 4 vodka shots and they made me pretty much drunk... hope no hang over.Went up to Kazem's house for a deal about selling my car and I did! My car is now sold to his friend from Russia. A Japanese guy sells his American-made car to Russian people... kind of funny picture, huh?
Anyway, Kazem's wife served me a dinner with drinks (of course, wherever Kazem does things involving drinks, right?). Ate a lot drank a lot and talked a lot. Made it fun time for me.
You know what? My new roommate Juri, besides yk110, made a sandwich for my lunch and I couldn't find any drinks in the refrigerators... ended up having a beer! In other words, I had drinks from lunch...
Today, except drinking occasions, I sorted stuff out... into 3 different categories... 1. things to send to Japan, 2. things to throw away, and 3. things to take to NC (for Thursday and Friday) for permanent storage.
I was, once again, amazed how much stuff I've got... not much I mean.
Anyway, packing is very hectic to do for me... since am very lazy as ya'll know! Haha.
See you tomorrow.
Oh, I have to go to work for a day! Looking forward to seeing familiar faces in the office!

August 13, 2000 =Beautiful Sunday in Atlanta! |
In the middle of Japanese Halloween... I am sure that there are some readers accessing this website from their hometowns...Man, beautiful Sunday... moderate temperature with some cool wind, I liked it. Made me feel so good about being outside. In the matter of fact, I went out and walked quite bit... along with Peachtree Road... sort of window shopping. Found several interesting sites and it wasn't that bad doing so, folks! The place was in Buckhead... should check things out like that, I recommend.
See a movie... too. "Bless Child." Wow, it was a bit scary... sort of. I should give a A-. It's the matter of you believe in angels and evils. I really liked it. Do I believe things like that? Yes, at least I do believe in angels. You don't have to be religious to see this movie... it's just fun movie --- don't get me wrong!
Where else did I go? Went to Cheesecake Factory (Mmmm, yum yum) on P'tree Rd... (you know, they have another location in Atlanta... in the Perimeter Mall) was of course crowded so much. Food was good as usual, except service... didn't tip much because of that. What's wrong? Just about slowness. The same person served me did the same to people next to me... problem was that they've got food before me even though I got seated prior to them!
Who did I go out with? --- Good question... I need to remain "the man of mystery." Hehehe.
Tomorrow... one week left for me to be in Atlanta... do I have to work? Nope. Well except Tuesday... will be in the office (fellows!). Other than that, I need to pack those darn things. Can you help?
All right... let me hit the sack... sleepy.

August 12, 2000 =Back to Normal Life in Atlanta? |
Hello, Atlanta!First morning... started at 8:30am. Yes, I got up that early. Why? Oh, it's because G O L F... Golf. Tyson and I went out to shoot some balls at Sugar Creek this morning since I haven't played for a month or so already.
No (golf) swings for such a long time didn't make any inch of difference to me! Ha, I stay as bad as had been! Though, more I played, more accuracy I got... at least today. I obviously had a better control of the ball because of solid swings and I wish I could complete 18 holes today... which we didn't. We finished at the half because of slowness... people ahead of us, actually whole group of people like 10 or so... were quite bad and took darn long time to play a little game.
Took us more than 3 hours to finish half... you know how I felt when finishing the first half... no patience left at that time. So we got a credit for half play from the Club and left the place with no more upset. Overall, shot 54.
Tyson and I got together with Tom2bwu (Kirk's girlfriend) and another friend, Yoshiko, for dinner. Ate some noodle and fried chicken... the dinner was pretty good and, of course, got some drinks (didn't get drunk, though).
Well, that's about it for today. No shopping, no movies, nothing, nada... At least and most importantly... I relaxed myself.
Tomorrow, I will do the same thing. Packing? Oh yah, I will do... from Monday. You know how lazy I am for that kind of stuff, right?
Better get some sleep...

August 10, 2000 =Tak's Tem Stay in Dallas "Don't Mess with Texas" #2 |
Finally packing in progress... laundry is done and I wonder if all stuff will fit into my big suitcase or not. Well, let's hope so.Continuing from yesterday's update: "Don't Mess with Texas" #2 -
Today's concept is "Things what Tak did" and Things what Tak didn't do"... got it? Here we go:
Things what Tak did in Dallas-
-Ate lots of sushi (wow, that doesn't happen much)-Drove like a maniac (cuz Texas drivers too!)
-Broke the laptop (not intentionally, of course)
-Sightseeing (somewhat)
-Bought many ties (as preparation for going back to Japan)
-Listened to country music, other than Shania Twain's! (i.e. Faith Hill & Dixie Chicks)
-Went to a pool (first time for a several years!)
Things what Tak didn't do in Dallas-
-Didn't eat Texas' size steak!-Didn't drink too much.
-Didn't go out for a date (incl. "didn't ask any girl out").
-Didn't go any gentlemen's club.
-(most importantly) Didn't flirt with ladies!
-Didn't go rodeo.
-Didn't sneak out of the office.
I guess this is pretty darn good summary of the trip. I am sure that you laugh at me by reading this line. Hahaha! (I laugh with you then)
Had a talk with Sherry, the boss of the project. Seemed happy about what I have done. That's not bad... Hope the project will get complete the mission in the near future even after my departure.
Oh, need to finish up the last expensive report... I don't wanna forget about this, do I?! Well, I need to get reimbursed, of course! Rental car and apartment rent are arranged based upon "billing directly to the Company" --- so what I ask for reimbursement is simply food expenses and gas charges. Should be about $500 total, I guess (maybe less).
Wanna thank Gail and Michelle... took me out for lunch, my last lunch. Went to a seafood place... that was excellent! Want to go again... too bad I can't.
Well, better pack all up... Will talk to you from Atlanta by tomorrow night. My flight is leaving at 2:35pm. Should be home by 7pm or so even after dinner. See you tomorrow.

August 9, 2000 =Now Another TV Put in My Bed Room?! Too LATE! |
Hot hot hot --- Dallas over 100 degree! Heard that there was no rain since 6/30/00! Wow, that's more than a month - unbelievable. When I came back to apartment (after shopping - which was final one in Dallas), found that another TV was set in my bed room. TOO DARN LATE... I am leaving in TWO (2) DAYS!
Well... shouldn't complain too much about this place... at least I had a good time (wish could stay longer?!?! SURE!).
After work, went to shopping as said last time on this trip! Got several souvenirs for friends and family members... and bought another tie (wow! 5 ties purchased during my stay!) Let me excuse myself... it was ON SALE, first of all and most important of all. Saks Fifth Avenue Men's Dept. had sale going on and dropped by--- that's the beginning of everything, right? Haha. Anyway, bought another Versace tie.
What I bought as souvenirs? Curious? Well... cannot specify exactly what I bought for it because... (of course, most people who get stuff from me read this already) you know. Anyway, bought stuff with logo "Texas" or "Dallas" on it. Some for myself, of course (which I usually grab in the first place anyway).
Oh, like did the same in Japanese page, I summarize this trip in today's and tomorrow's update of this website.
<Tak's Temp Stay in Dallas, TX - Came to Mess with Texas!>Like about Dallas-
- Hot... nice weather, not much (or almost no) rain- Town is developing, new malls / restaurants / entertainment places
- Work place... good environment
- Nice people in work place (with good cultural diversity)
- Tak's Spanish can be used
- Good Mexican restaurants
- Many "Gentlemen's Clubs" (like Atlanta) - Oh, never been to any of them!
Dislike about Dallas-
- Road condition, awful pavement on the roads- No good Chinese restaurants
- Japanese foods are relatively high in price.
- Sprinkler everywhere!
- A bit too hot to play golf often...
Speaking of sprinklers... they are EVERYWHERE since no rain... so watering grass is very important, I am sure. Though, there is no good control of them. They face to road and waste water... sometimes the splash is high and when I drive to work, my rental car got wet... I don't like it because later on, the car easily gets dirty with dust from the air.
Texans, please maintain your sprinklers! (Por favor, mantenga sus rociadores!)
Tomorrow... will do another summary of my Dallas experience with different perspectives. Stay tuned!
See ya!

August 8, 2000 =Tak's Project into Final State?!?! |
Well... Tuesday is now over... I have Wednesday and Thursday completely and partially Friday here in Dallas. My flight out of here is scheduled at (ooops, I don't know exactly what time it was - let me look now...) 2:35pm! I may not be able to eat lunch with people here... busy shopping? Perhaps. After my ThinkPad (by IBM) died, I now carry my own machine, PowerBook 2400C/G3 for business use. Plus, the office now allows me to use their desktop computer, IBM 300PL. Cool, it's pretty fast! I can run Fast (=Import System), Eudora (of course, Email), Netscape (for dirty pictures), and Response Tracking System (to find out what kind chicks around myself).
Hahaha-
Since I've got a decent computing environment, things seem much easier ever to do by my own. I think I feel like I finally got full set of all needed here and ready to work MORE... at the final stage. Too bad, not much time left.
By the way, from this week once again, back on the 5th floor due to no other space downstairs. I now occupy one of small conference rooms near by Sherry's office and IT IS VERY QUIET (unbelievably).
Heard about Atlanta Braves were interested in a Japanese ballplayer... First time, finally about this? Possibility that we can see Japanese player in Turner Field? Maybe, maybe not... Who knows?!?!
For lunch, Anne Legere took me to Papa's BBQ on Northeast Rd. (I think) It was pretty good and liked the food a lot (I ate pork rib). Man! there are some nice restaurants near the office (much better situation compared to the one in Atlanta!). Talk with her was mostly casual... no much business-like. Seems she liked this place, even though she works like in the hell so far. Hope she doesn't get worn out in doing things that way. She comes in the office like 6:30am and leaves the office as the last person in the department. She usually doesn't take a lunch time!
Dinner... went out with Tom. I was a bit late to meet him in one shopping plaza on Mac Arthur Blvd. I got a conference call from 6:10pm thru like 7:20pm --- meeting time was set at 7:30pm. Anyway, ate sushi with him (wow, how many times I've got to eat sushi during this trip?). Sushi was okay... (@Midori Sushi).
If you wanna go to eat sushi in this area... go to "Hanasho" on Belt Line (close to Irving Mall).
Well, better go for now. Will see you on line tomorrow. See ya.

August 7, 2000 =Tak's Laptop - IBM ThinkPad Dies --- |
Ow! ... laptop, IBM's ThinkPad, I have been using for almost 3 years, died today after a massive heart attack. Ambulance (Computer Support people) arrived quite late and found that there was no way to recover anything out of him at that time.Recently, I reported that computer was easily getting crashed and today... big one caused entire loss of data and everything. Did I have backup? Sort of... in Atlanta. All gone about my expense report on this trip and clients profile information. I guess, it was just too unfortunate.
First time eating Thai foods in this trip... Ate Pad Thai - noodle - and am kinda happy about it. No Japanese tonight. Maybe tomorrow (haha).
Oh, so my computer got toasted... I didn't do anything pretty much... for the project I was working on. I guess, it may be a bit difficult to finish all up by Friday when leaving for Atlanta. Anyway, I do my best.
Some people in Japan emailed me, asking me like "How's the project?" --- Oh well, it's been great that nothing really had accomplished like they thought. New project involves kicking off a whole new department for Japan's biz... not really happening yet. I know it happens... just the matter of WHEN.
Lots of people in Japan expected that I would involve in the new team and so did I... then, delay after delay... and my last day in COE now beats the project. So I gotta go and seems no need of extension.
Wanted to go to see another Rangers' game before leaving... you know what? There is NO home games until this Friday... actually after my departure time... so there is no chances for me... at least I've already seen the game... better than nothing.
Tuesday... I really should catch up with work that became running behind now. I should be concentrating tomorrow (don't I do that usually?!?!) ---
Ok, see you tomorrow, folks.

August 6, 2000 ="Hollow Man" - the Movie |
Time really flies! --- This was the last weekend that I spent in Dallas! Yes, that's it! Cannot believe that I have spent almost a month here already. No much time left. I feel a little difficult feeling... kinda uneasy... because what I leave for Atlanta directly means that I am going into chaotic time when I need to pack everything and to say good-bye to all friends around within such limited time. I know, it's tough.Anyway, didn't have any hang over... which is good (how much did I drink?). Got lots of sleep and feel great... Didn't want to go to pool though... my back and chest really give me a pain... because of sun burn. So I decided to stay inside with AC working well.
As mentioned yesterday, went shopping. Forgot the name of the mall... though, that mall was also very new and clean. Tons of people were out there. Not only checking the mall, also went in CompUSA, Best Buy, etc. Oh, I found USB cable for Visor (handheld PC) at CompUSA... for 30 bucks. Then, I bought it. In Best Buy, the same thing without fancy package - non brand cable... for $19.99. Got this one and soon after it, went back to CompUSA to return the goods. Man, just a package makes a 10-dollar difference?! Wow!
So I saved $10 right there and this money went for exchange of "Thomas Crown Affair" tape (hehe). I really like that movie.
Came to a movie again. "Hollow Man," No.1 movie of this weekend. Did ya'll see this? First half story was pretty good... then, it got boring thereafter. I guess, the story wasn't that complicated or anything. Making some human transparent isn't that good idea... throughout the movie. Yah, it scares. Actor Kevin Bacon played well in it.
Over all, I can give only C - a solid C to this film.
Movie Box Office Report of this weekend, Coyote Ugly ended up with 4th place... even after "Space Cowboys?" Why?
I guess, Coyote had wrong strategy to advertise? The image of movies is about wild women in wild bar, I guess. However, I am sure that Hollow- won't stay in the No.1 spot next weekend.
Well, I've got 5 days to work here... Let me clear all up before leaving here and do all things quickly even in Atlanta too. Will let ya'll know what the plan in Atlanta later on.
See ya'll later.

August 5, 2000 =Tak's Come Back! "Coyote Ugly" --- |
Wow, didn't update this English page for 2 days in a row?! What happened to me? No, you guess wrong like I got a new girlfriend, etc. This is nothing but I had been lazy... drinking too much, maybe.Well... Japanese page got only 1 day OFF during this time... you know I've got more frequent readers out there rather than here... Someday, I probably spend more time with more efforts in this page when lots of feedback and interests from English viewers. You know, SOMEDAY.
Movie "Coyote Ugly" (www.coyoteugly.go.com) --- was pretty good... contrary to my expectation. I was guessing that movie was dealing with nothing but fun / a little crazy bar --- kind of thing. The matter was a girl from New Jersey dreaming big about becoming a songwriter in Big Apple. The story was drawn along with her and her mates on the bar counter of "Coyote Ugly" --- Yes, all girls had dreams before. This is about the dream for a girl with reality and fantasy of the big city. I liked it.
What I heard is... Bar "Coyote Ugly" is actually existing in NYC. And there are some more similar places... tkoich (a friend of mine in NYC) should go and check them out! (I need to know, it's worth to go or not... so that I can decide to go to see him...)
![]()
Tak's rating for "Coyote Ugly" : B+ <pretty good>
3 locations in NYC... "Coyote Ugly," "Village Idiot," and "Hogs & Heifers" --- I am sure that some people out there, after seeing this movie, will start same or similar kind of businesses. Trust me, folks! (I know ya'll well.)
Kristi and Laura (oh, perdon, they are NOT coyotes!) phoned me if I wanted to go out for drinks tonight... of course, I wanted to. So we all went out to Dallas Downtown. Supposedly, meeting some other fellows from the office for birthday party... NEVER got together with them. We ended up having drinks at the Dome, restaurant and bar in the tower where we could have a 360-degree view of the town in an hour! (I know there is one in Atlanta --- haven't been to yet.)
View was awesome! Should've brought the digital camera... darn, forgot about it. 2 more ladies joined us and we all were unable to meet any more folks thereafter... so we kept drinking... Corona & frozen margarita... no wonder I felt so good about it.
Came home like 1 am... I was driving and gave a ride to those ladies... Apparently, I knew the downtown area way better than them did... I am the out-of-towner... they've been living here for a half year or so already... I guess I've done the homework and see many sightseeing places in the area.
This weekend is "Back to School" sale is going on all over the State of Texas and lots of stores don'&t charge sales tax... Well, never ever heard anything like that before when in NC, VA, and GA... Heard SC did the same for this weekend. Huh --- I better go out again to see some other things...
All right, got to go... Talk to you later!

August 2, 2000 =Celebration... Ogaki-jin 2 Years!!! |
Thank you for all your supports. Today, happily announcing that Tak's Website Ogaki-jin has reached to its 2-year-anniversary! So great! I know, English version lasting only for half a year or so at this moment. Hope this site will prosper like the Japanese one (more than 19k visitors total!). Please keep your bookmark intact and coming back to LAUGH at me! (and with me!) I promise that I continue to sacrifice my precious life in order to keep this amusement open in public. From today... for rest of my Dallas trip... I am alone in this huge apartment! Roommate Dan just left for Seattle for move... to Dallas with his family. So, I kind got isolated from tonight!
Would you like to come to my apartment? (Who the hell am I speaking to?)
Maybe I should throw a party here this weekend... just kidding.
Today... my (new) boss visited the office... so I all day long had a meeting with him. He wanted me to explain what I had done since the Day 1 in COE. Of course, it's none, right? Hahaha. Anyway, I told him many stuff... a lot... really. He seemed (at least to me) astonished by my stories... kind beyond his imagination or thoughts. So meeting itself was fruitful, I believe.
Yah, of course, SOMETIMES I get serious about business... even though it is so rare to be so... right?!
Everything was wrapped up around 6:30pm... then went out for dinner. He chose Japanese... wanted to eat sushi... so we went to sushi bar "Hanasho" (again) on Belt Line in Irving. I really like that sushi... really do.
Boss and I talked many different things... talking about this website (Oooops!), business (of course), Japan, American culture... most importantly talked about my college life. He really listed to me consistently about that story. I guess he was impressed? Maybe.
Funny thing... we were sitting at the counter... and there was a couple (white) sitting near by my side... They were talking so serious. I guess, they were talking into breakup or something. You know what? That girl was quite cute and sexy... wearing quite tight dress on top. Kept my KEEEEEEEN attention to what they were talking about. Lady said, "If you don't like this, you can leave now." Clearly heard... wow... big deal. At last, they seemed settled and went out together... though, I kept thinking, "What if I came by said - What about me?" Like a movie scene... Of course, things don't turn out like that. NEVER!
I was really concentrating two things... one conversation with my boss on right ear --- Japanese language and left ear... tried to listen what they were talking about in English. Man, this I can do... make me truly bilingual? hehe...
Too bad, I don't have any number to give to her... If this were permanent basis... (dreamed of)
Anyway, sushi was good as always and very satisfied.
Jonathan... emailed me hello. Though, he told me that he took good care of two ladies in the office... Damn, he hasn't stopped flirting... hey! I don't have any success on flirting! (maybe yet!)
Brittany... called the office and she answered. She called me "honey." Wow--- what a surprise she called me like that. Now she plans to come to see me in Tokyo in next March?
Oh, better get up early tomorrow so that I can take my boss to airport... he's going to Atlanta! (before me)
See you tomorrow.

August 1, 2000 =Restaurant after Restaurant... What a Trip! |
Finally August... This is it! This is the LAST MONTH to be in US for me... Questions is if I continue this website or not after leaving here... for Japan.See, my departure is 22nd of the month... actually, I don't even have a complete month here anymore! What a shock!
Restaurant after restaurant... today's title.
For lunch, wen to "Jimbei" on Las Colinas Blvd. - Japanese cuisine. Went out with Tom who took me out there. It was pretty okay, I guess... wasn't bad at all... Though, it was pretty expensive! Couldn't believe the price like that.
Dinner... was working dinner... since my current BOSS arrived here from Japan. Went to an Italian restaurant on, once again, Las Colinas Blvd. It was very nice restaurant. I really liked it. Food was good... I ate veal... hadn't had eaten that for quite a while... so I wanted. Great food.
Oh name of the restaurant? It's "Cafe Cipriani" ---
Dan and Sherry ("Big Boss of COE") were with us. Dinner was nice and meeting itself went well... oh maybe I talked too much (I should've been quiet). Talking about old good days in Atlanta, Dallas pro teams (Cowboys, Stars, and Rangers), other fancy places in Dallas, malls in this area, etc.
I was right... I really need to go to Grapevine Mills. Haven't checked that big outlet mall yet. I knew I should have. I will --- promise!
Yah like mentioned, my new boss, different from the one in Atlanta. I hadn't met him before; I was told to report to him 2 weeks ago.
I still don't know exactly the mission he has for this trip... I really thought that something was already discussed in Japan before his departure. Obviously, not.
Anyway, I need to keep him company tomorrow and should be different in my scheduling. He's the boss! (right?)
Wow, can you see this? Just got a picture from friend, LEO, in Japan. She made a trip to northern part of Japan... Hokkaido, recently and took this wonderful view in picture... So beautifu! Want to get there to see those in real, man!
Am quite tired already tonight... don't have much energy left to write more... Let me close out for tonight... See you tomorrow then.
